Interests: ive been diagnosed with ednos and im currently going through recovery. im hoping to share what ive learned, i can be sarcastic at times and my opinion is strong. i would like to help girls/guys understand starving and purging isnt an easy way to lose weight and can often result in little to no weight loss.

ana

description: a diet. attempting to cut calories, and often allowing foods known as "negative calorie" foods. refered to as a "lifestyle"
diagnosis: any girl who cuts calories and thinks ana is her friend. usually has a normal or high body weight.
treatment: education and a slap in the face.

anorexia nervosa
description: a serious, often chronic, and life-threatening eating disorder defined by a refusal to maintain minimal body weight within 15 percent of an individual's normal weight.
diagnosis: body weight needs to be 85% or less than that which is considered typical for someone of similar build, age and height.
treatment: in an outpatient setting, or hospitalization may be necessary. also, group therapy, family therapy, and/or a psychiatrist.

if food is always on your mind and you try to avoid food hoping to lose weight, you dont necessarily have an eating disorder. dieting can cause your mind to focus on food. when a body lacks the foods and nutrients it needs its mind will function around food. your body naturally goes into a state of hunger. like an animal it will hunt for food, and this is how a binge can happen.

a binge:
eating more than needed to satisfy hunger.

many people mistake overeating for a binge. a binge is eating an excessive amount of calories in one sitting. eating two cupcakes is not a binge. eating over 2000 calories in one sitting is.

with this said, if you are SELF-diagnosing yourself with anorexia of bulimia, please stop. unless you fall under the guidelines. its not fair to those who truly are struggling with an eating disorder.

truth about 43 ana tips

001. Drink a glass of water every hour. It will make you feel full. Water doesn't really make you feel full or satisfied, you'll just feel hungry a half hour later. In fact, you'll probably be even hungrier than if you just ate a reasonably healthy snack instead of drinking tons of water.

002. Pick one food for the day, like an apple. Cut it into 8 slices. Eat 2 slices at breakfast, 2 at lunch, 2 at dinner, and you'll have 2 left for a snack. This way your body thinks it's eating 4 times that day, but in reality you've only had 1 apple. The next day pick another food. Make sure it's only 1 serving that you split up into 3 or more throughout the day. Constantly eating such little amount of calories throughout the day will only result in a binge. A binge is your bodies way of trying to recover all the missing calories.

003. Don’t try to fast for days and days. First of all, fasting for long periods of time actually slows down the metabolism, second, it increases binge cravings immensely, and third, it affects your mood greatly. Instead of being happy for losing weight, you’ll be depressed simply because of lack of food. TRUE.

004. If you live on your own or have a lot of privacy, tape/tack up pictures of your favorite models and always carry one around with you. When you're hungry pull out the picture. If you live on your own, tape them up on the fridge, freezer, and cupboards (just remember to take them down or cover them when people come over). This isnt a valid way to lose weight, and its a pathetic trend. Looking at a picture will not surpress your appetite. It will only make you feel bad about yourself.

005. Always wear perfectly applied sticky lipgloss or chapstick. It keeps you very aware of what goes in your mouth, and makes you think twice about eating anything, because you will have to carefully re-apply. This is a made up tip and barely works for anyone. 1. lipstick/lipgloss comes off after awhile and 2. you can still eat food and have lipgloss on your lips. This is just a sad attempt to try to sound like you know what youre doing.

006. 'Pro Plus' are caffeine tablets which you can just buy from most shops, no need for calorie infested coffee, they are also easy to take if and when you do eat anything. Caffeine tablets give you energy, they are not in any way a diet pill . Pro Plus only relieves tiredness and allows you to be awake longer.

007. If you're a smoker and you're hungry, light up a cigarette. It curbs your appetite and you no longer feel hungry. If you’re not a smoker, however, I wouldn’t advise you to start simply to lose weight. Do I need to explain this one? I think we all know how dumb you are to  smoke to lose weight. Nothings more attractive then a  skeleton with bad teeth and bad breath, damn bet you'll look good in a  bikini. [in no way do i mean to offend those who smoke, just those who do for weightloss.]

008. If you are really craving food, brush your teeth with a strong mint toothpaste. This helps to put you off food because of the taste it leaves behind. Any taste left behind can turn you off of food. This could work, but once it wears off you will be craving food like crazy, and this doesnt surpress your appetite. Mint just leaves an aftertaste that doesnt mix well with most food flavors.

009. When you are hungry, do something gross like dig for worms, clean a kitty litter box, or something. It will make you less likely to eat. This doesnt help at all. It just distracts you, only those with very weak stomachs could achieve  this tip. You can dig for worms, come in, take a shower and eat.

010. In between each mouthful of food that you eat, take a sip of water. It fills you up and slows down your eating so that you stay in control and the meal doesn’t turn into a flat-out binge. Once again, water does not fill you up, it will only make it easier for your body to digest the food. Nothing special.

011. When drinking water, drink ICE COLD water... your body has to burn calories to keep your body temperature up.  This is true, but the number of calories burned is so low its not worth it. In fact studies have shown the cold could result in making you more hungry later on.

012. I would not recommend taking laxatives because they are not an effective way of purging, and you actually gain weight by taking them. There are natural laxatives though, found in foods like prunes and grapes. Also, there are certain sugar-free cough drops and candies that produce a laxative effect because of the sugar substitute used in them. Yes, lets all share secrets on how to shit. mmm. No, I suggest you dont use laxatives of any kind. It messes with your system and you arent very popular always in the bathroom.

013. Try to eat in the same place every day. Somewhere solitary. Not in front of the TV or computer. If you have to stop what you’re doing to go eat you might not even bother.  No, I suggest eating  at the dinner table. Set up your meal so it looks nice, it will be more satisfying to eat.

014. Eat what you crave. But eat it before you crave it in moderation. For instance, instead of a whole chocolate bar, get one of the small ones and only eat 1/2 of it. Allow yourself to enjoy it. Deprivation leads to bingeing. TRUE.

015. Sleep at least 6 hours a night. Less than 6 hours sleep a night stimulates appetite by 15%. A lot of people with eating disorders suffer from insomnia, but it really is important to get as much sleep as possible.. Not just for weight loss, but because it helps the body stay healthy even though it is starving. TRUE.

016. Lower the temperature in your house 10 degrees to burn more calories, or take an icy cold shower/bath. Like drinking the ice water, it causes your body burns calories as it tries to warm you up.  It is shown that the cold may actually strengthen your hunger and you will only want to eat later, and eat alot. Be comfortable, be warm if youre cold. And be cold if youre warm. Dont torture yourself for nothing.

017. Always eat teaspoon size amounts of food at any one time and chew well. You will become fuller with less food so won’t want to finish what's on your plate. This is a bunch of bull, eat so that you enjoy your food, you will feel full when you enjoy it. A person will eat until satisfaction.

018. If you’re really hungry, buy a bag of low fat low calorie hard candies. When you suck on them a lot your stomach will tell you that you are full. This is untrue. Your stomach is full when it has enough food, a little peice of candy will only coat your throat and taste good.

019. Try drinking more hot beverages, especially in fall and in winter. Hot liquids expand the intestinal tract and make you feel more full. A warm drink can help take the edge off your hunger, preventing overindulging later. In fact, soup can do the same. Bullion cubes are only 5 calories a cube, and they taste wonderful. This is true, but you are fooling your stomach, when your stomach realizes its feeling full but not recieving calories , you will feel hungry and crave even more.

020. Focus especially on the first three bites. After that, the excitement of eating will begin to slowly subside, and you'll probably be content with a smaller portion. No, eating can be enjoyable the whole way through, you just have to allow yourself to enjoy it as hard as it may be.

021. Spicy foods raise your metabolism and burn slightly more calories than mild foods. Semi true, but it wont make much of a difference, it wont make a significant change.

022 If you feel like you want to eat, go to a friend’s house that you cannot just raid the fridge at. Being around other people will make you less likely to eat since most people with eating disorders are embarrassed of being “caught” eating in public. People with eating disorders wouldnt need this tip because they would already be aware of embarrassement, and if you dont have eating disorder and you read this tip, you need to stop trying to learn how to an eating disorder, go out and make friends. Most people with or without eating disorders who diet tend to overeat around friends out of pressure.

023. When you go out, take only a few bucks with you so when you walk past the pastry shops you can't afford anything. Go for it, but then youll only be hungry later thinking about that pastry and it may trigger a binge.

024. Before you dig into that carton of ice cream, bag of chips, etc., take a deep breath and count to 100. Usually, by the time you stop counting you will have convinced yourself that you don't really need it. This is mostly phychologial and rarely works, its a nice idea, but a failed one.

025. Write a note to yourself listing all the reasons you are finally ready to lose weight. Keep this letter with you at all times, for inspiration.  Oh yes, another trend, ana/mia journals. Im not even going to go over this one, if you have  to do this, im sorry. you need friends.

026. Check your head. Never eat anything bigger than your head, even lettuce. You'll only stretch your stomach out. Train your tummy to settle for less. What is there to eat that is bigger than your head?  Jesus christ.

027. You'll eat less on a black or navy blue plate.  This is once again a trick of the mind and doesnt work for everyone, barely anyone at that.

028. Eat your sweets at breakfast. Eat your sweets when you crave them, does anyone crave candy in the morning? Not me.

029. If you love a certain food, save the wrappers even after you've eaten it. Smell it when you're hungry. Haha, this is just psycho, this wont help. It will only increase your hunger and tempt you for more.

030. Don't Swallow! Take a bite, chew, and spit it out. Yes, then you will have swollen cheecks from the excessive use of your salivary glands, that will be attractive.

032. Track your triggers. Log them in a notebook, post them in your journal, whatever. This way you’ll know when a trigger is going to hit, and you’ll know in advance to keep yourself occupied during that time.  Good idea. Avoid triggers, but some of the things that cause triggers should stop. Such as the sniffing your wrappers.  [how sad]

033. Sit up straight. You'll burn at least ten percent more calories sitting upright than reclining. Sit how you want. Your body burns calories sitting, it doesnt matter how you sit.

034. Never eat anything bigger than your fist.  It shouldnt matter the size of your food, what matters to most with an eating disorder is the calories. Eat any size youd like.

035. Get your tongue/lip/labret pierced, therefore you can't eat. Not only will your mouth be sore, but you’ll have something to strive for, a new motivation. For me, when I get a new piercing I starve myself because I want to look good with the new jewelry.  If you are this determined, I wouldnt be able to persuade you no matter what I say.

036. Drink 2tbsp of vinegar before the meal, so it well help suck out the fat out of it. This will only make you sick, and it will not suck any fat. It will only give you a tummy ache.

037. If you're being watched, try the opaque cup trick. This one’s a classic: Pretend you're eating, and spit the food in the cup while you pretend to be drinking - don't forget to get rid of what's in the cup though! Once again, swollen cheeks.

038. Go to the kitchen often, and pretend you’re snacking. Take a bite out of something and take a long time, look in the fridge, etc. They will think you're always in the kitchen eating, and won't suspect anything.. If you never go in the kitchen, your family will notice.  Nice thought, but this could easily trigger a binge. Very easily. This isnt a good idea.

039. Go Vegan or vegetarian, or just cut out red meat altogether... Meat and meat products have a lot of fat in them. A lot of foods have fat in them, but meat is a protein and you need protein in your diet  for your senses, your skin, your muscle and nervous system and for your red blood cells.

040. Have a peppermint. Peppermints actually decrease hunger. True, peppermint has a relaxing affect on the digestive system, but it wont last forever.

041. Drink tea whenever you get hungry and drink as much as you want – it’s low in calories, and it fills you up. It can fill you up, but onnnce again, you will feel hungry later and may trigger a binge.

042. Hit your stomach when it grumbles because that will make the sound go away and your stomach will hurt too much to eat.  Not true, this is just a way to hurt yourself. Your stomach will not cease its hunger if you hit it.

043. Diet soda, contrary to what it says on the bottle, is not calorie-free. It is, however, still low in calories (one calorie a can), and though it’s not as good as drinking water, it will fill you up.  It will fill you up, but diet pops can trigger a binge and make you hungry because it fools your body into being full, but your body wants the calories that youre not putting into it.
